Town of Cicero Signs Contract With GAR For Revaluation

Minimize

The Town of Cicero in Onondaga County, New York signed a contract for a town-wide reassessment of all 13,500 properties.  There has been no formal revaluation in the history of this town.  The current equalization rate in the town is approximately 5% of full market value.

The project will involve a complete on-site inspection of all properties, which will begin in August of 2009.  Final full value assessments will be implemented in the spring of 2011.

Newly appointed Assessor Brad Brennan also is the assessor for the neighboring town of Salina.  The two towns entered into a consolidated arrangement to share one assessor and maintain full value assessments.  Each town will receive aid from New York State to assist in the consolidation effort.

GAR will be implementing digital photographs, electronic sketching, and automated property record cards as part of the project.

GAR kicked off the project with a series of company standard public education and information sessions.  Many residents attended the workshops and, while although anxious, appear to appreciate the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the process.
