Syracuse, N.Y. — If you’ve been to the Shop City plaza lately, you’ve no doubt noticed the new building going up near Tops.

It’s the future home of the Fish Cove, the fish market currently located in a different section of Shop City, which is at the corner of Grant Boulevard and Teall Avenue.

The market’s new building is just north of the city line in the town of Salina, right next to the Tops parking lot.

Construction began a few months ago, but still has a ways to go, according to the shop. The business doesn’t expect to move to the new building until sometime next year.

There’s some other construction happening near Shop City as well. A former church on Swansea Drive is being converted to four residential units, Eric Ennis, director of business development for the city of Syracuse, said in an email.

That work is ongoing.

Elsewhere in the city, a new retail building is under construction across from the Central New York Regional Market. It’s located on Park Street.

Though the building will have space for multiple tenants, the only one confirmed so far is a Dunkin’, Ennis said.

Finally, the Cliff’s Local Market at the corner of Erie Boulevard and Thompson Road in DeWitt is open again after a complete rebuild. Crews tore down the old store and car wash and replaced it with a new, bigger location.

The new 4,400-square-foot store has a beer cave, fresh pizza and a sub bar with made-to-order subs, salads and wraps. The location also has a new outside seating area and Utica Coffee.
