Mallory, N.Y. — Any house built in the 19th century is bound to have some history that goes with it and 78 County Route 32 in Mallory is no exception.

The home, built in 1899 and owned by Bill Drescher, is on the market now. Drescher and his family are considering a move to a warmer climate, he said.

Mallory was a booming community around the time the house was built, said Drescher, who has done some research on the community and the property. It had multiple hotels, a post office and a general store and Drescher’s home was right in the middle of all the activity in the community’s downtown.

A mill that employed 100 people at the time was a busy source of commerce, Drescher said. The house itself is not far from the mill site.

A hand-dug creek that supplied the mill with water still snakes by Drescher’s property. An original stone well also sits on the property.

It’s 3 feet wide and 18 feet deep.

But it’s not just the history that makes the home appealing, Drescher said. He and his family have been in the home about 15 years and have undertaken multiple renovations projects.

Upgrades included new flooring, granite countertops and removing a wall in the kitchen area to open up more space in the home. Drescher said he also added multiple new heat sources, including a gas fireplace and pellet stove.

The bathrooms, kitchen and dining area all have heated floors. Drescher said he updated the kitchen with stainless steel appliances as well.

Drescher renovated both bathrooms and added a separate in-law apartment to the home.

The property also features outdoor amenities, including a pool and deck.

“It’s a great home,” said Drescher, who is a retired emergency medical services professional and now works in safety and training. “We love to live there. If I could move the home, we would move the whole entire thing.”
